It Is Trish

For the last year or so, I have been using my phone more and more for podcasts instead of music.  Listening to people talking – sharing stories or advice or jokes – makes time go by so much quicker for me.  I keep finding interesting podcasts to subscribe to, and I want to share the wealth (and maybe get some recommendations from you)!

1|  Dear Hank and John

I love the Vlogbrothers, and I’ve happily ingested their content on YouTube (and bought some Don’t Forget to be Awesome merchandise), but I only recently subscribed to their Comedy Podcast About Death.  They answer listeners’ questions with dubious advice, and the whole thing feels very lowkey educational and humorous.  I have listened to 17 episodes in the last three days, so.  Obviously I like it.

2|  Overinvested

This is a newly created podcast by Gavia and Morgan, two geek girls who are great at dissecting fandoms with both intelligence and passion.  As of this writing, there are only eight episodes out, but since they cover topics like “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avatar,” “Black Panther,” and “Batman v Superman,” they are clearly almost all quality. I even listened to the episodes about films I’ve never seen, and I was STILL interested for the full hour-long conversation.  These girls are great.

3|  Not Too Deep with Grace Helbig

I love her YouTube channel, and I love her inane conversations with fellow YouTubers.  There’s something really pleasing about listening to people have a good time together, and Grace always makes sure her guests are entertained.  If the fact that her two go-to questions are “What is your worst pants-shitting story in three words or phrases?” and “If you could throw cold spaghetti at one person, who would it be?” sounds amazing to you, then probably you’ll enjoy her podcast.

4|  The Liturgists Podcast

And now for something completely different!  The Liturgists Podcast, run by Science Mike and Michael Gungor, is a place for Christian conversations about potentially controversial topics.  Their episodes about racism, prophecy, and the LGBTQ community are especially good.  This is the place I go when I need confirmation that there are Christians who want to engage deeply with the world in love.

5|  Anna Faris is Unqualified

Who knew a comedy queen could be such a talented advice columnist?  Anna brings on a celebrity guest star in each episode (easily the best is the two-parter with her husband Chris Pratt AND Jenny Slate AND Chris Evans).  They chat for a while before Skyping with someone who has a relationship problem.  Their advice is almost always great, and the banter is even more solid.
