My LIFE as an INFJ

I saw How You’ll Do Everything Based on Your Personality Type by Heidi Priebe for free on the Amazon Kindle site, and I’ve always wanted to know how I’ll do everything.  She’s a writer for Thought Catalog, and I had seen a few of these before on Facebook.  But I couldn’t resist knowing everything about myself all at once, and of course, then sharing my discoveries on this blog.  Check the book out for yourself if you want to know about your own personality type!

Here are some of my favorite INFJ truths:

1|  What Each Personality Type Does at a Party:  Reluctantly holds a counseling session in the bathroom with some drunk girl they don’t know.

(But not “reluctantly” because there’s nothing I want more at a party than to find space for a one-on-one conversation.)

2|  What Each Personality Type is Like as a Friend:  The friend you have to plan a week ahead to see (in order to give them time to mentally prepare for the hangout) but then always end up spending ten plus hours discussing the nature of life, the Universe, and everything with.

(Nothing has ever been more accurate in my entire life.)

3|  Here’s Why You’re Still Single Based on your Personality Type:  I already covered this one in a different blog post!

4|  Here’s the Most Attractive Thing about your Personality Type:  Your Intensity.  There is nothing meek or helpless about you.  You are a highly intelligent, highly perceptive individual who understands others on a deep level.  This gives you the unique ability to connect quickly with new people.  It’s an intense experience for those on the receiving end of it and it makes everything about you seem hella sexy.

(Huh, and here I thought my intensity was what was keeping guys away.  NOT that I would be less intense to please someone else….hmmm.  There’s that “nothing meek or helpless” quality.)

5|  Here’s How to Attract Each Personality Type:  Be one big, walking paradox.  Look them deep in the eyes and tell them that you ‘Need them’ to help figure yourself out.

(ELIZABETH, LOOK!  There’s a REASON I always fall for fictional bad guys with hearts of gold!)

6|  Here’s Who Probably Has  Crush on You Based on Your Personality Type:  The intellectual badass.  They’re intense, unconventional and into pushing boundaries.  You’re composed, introspective and guarded.  This type is simultaneously your worst nightmare and your dream come true.  They won’t be shy in approaching you and trying to get down to the bottom of what makes you tick.  They’re natural puzzle-solvers and your eloquent composure is one giant question mark to them.  They want to break down your walls and show you and whole new world – one that may just be thrilling in all the right ways, if you let it be.

(Yup, that sounds like my nightmare and dream….and…..nope, that’s it.)

7|  Here’s What You Should Do for a First Date Based on Your Myers-Briggs Personality Type:  Visit a Used Bookstore Together.  You’re looking for an intellectual partner and as far as you’re concerned, there’s no better judge of character than what someone likes to read.  You can peruse the shelves together and swap literary suggestions – you’ll walk away with a new appreciation of your date and a list of new things to read.  It’s simply win-win.

(I literally gasped and clutched my hands to my chest, so yes, I think this is accurate.)

8|  Here’s Who You Were in High School Based on your Personality Type:  You were a band geek.  Your best friends were fellow band geeks, one of whom you lost your virginity to and then dated on and off until high school ended.  You got straight A’s, but that was a given.  When you were not in band practice you could be found reading alone in the library, wearing an “I ❤ Nerds” t-shirt and eyeing up the hot ENTP.

(UM!  Did she SPY on me?  Obviously not, because I was too busy wanting Lifelong Love and not trusting anyone to give it to me in order to lose my virginity, and MY shirt said “Reading is Sexy.”  Really.)

9|  Here is What Happens When Each Myers-Briggs Personality Type Makes a New Year’s Resolution:  “I resolve to be less of a perfectionist and share more of myself with others.” Outcome:  Refuses to disclose resolution to others, for fear that they will have to admit failure if they do not achieve it.

(HAHAHA.  Yes.)

10|  How Each Personality Type is Likely to Die:  Starves to death in a hunger strike to raise awareness about the dire state of society.

(I mean, that sounds like a pretty good way to go out to me.)

Fellow INFJs, what’d you think?  Accurate?  Other personality types, grab a copy of Priebe’s book for free on Amazon Kindle, or check out her website.  Let me know if you find out anything interesting about yourself!

I got the book :), lol, and thank you for the recommendation! I was nodding in agreement mostly throughout this whole post :). The only ones I could not relate to were eight, nine and ten. I keep relating to both INFJ descriptions and INFP descriptions. But I love love the one about the bookstore date. 🙂 Soo true. Anyway, I can’t wait to read the book later :). Thank you!

I’m so glad you got it! Let me know if you relate to any of the INFJ posts that I passed by.

And there’s a good possibility you’re equally J and P, which would be so cool! It’s always good to have a balanced personality, in some way at least. :p

I may try and download this book – so, so accurate! Especially 1 and 2. I am ALWAYS the person counselling drunk crying people! And I totally need a week to mentally prepare for social events, sometimes more time than that to be honest haha…

Hahaha! Yes! This is why it’s so nice to talk with fellow introverts….when I’ve tried to explain myself to more extroverted friends – that I need time to process new plans and that cancelled plans are AWESOME even if I was looking forward to the event – they just look at me as though I am crazy! Maybe I am, but at least there’s another 2% of the population with me. 🙂

Finally somebody who understands the excitement of cancelled plans hahah! I’ve always felt I was alone in this – none of my friends understand this at all. I think blogging is good for introverted people, because there are so many introverts on WordPress, it’s like finding *your people* haha! Don’t worry, right there with you in that 2% 🙂

Yes, exactly! Blogging is the perfect way to connect to people and feel like you have a safe place to express yourself and be known….from the comfort and safety of your bedroom. :p

Spoken like a true not-INFJ. lol. Everyone is deep if you take the time to look for it! BUT I will grant you that not everyone’s depths are healthy to dive into.

I finished reading it Tricia :). I am borderline infj and infp so it was really funny since i can relate (embarassingly well) too almost all of what the book said. ❤ I liked it so much because it was a light, quick read, that I recommended it to thebook club I'm part of. So, thank you! I really liked it to the point where i was laughing out loud at some of the parts :). I hope you and your readers have a wonderful day <3…

Thanks for remembering to let me know! I’m glad you found the humor in some of her less-than-great descriptions of INFJs (and I assume of INFPs as well). What’s the point if we can’t laugh at ourselves?

Since you’re in between two personality types, how great that from now on, if INFJ doesn’t match, you can just swing by INFPs and see if that’s any better!

Lol. ♡ Yes, I definitely laugh at myself at times. I wish the infp was ‘better’ however it’s just as humbling. It’s good.. it keeps me grounded 🙂 ♡.

I completely agree with number 2. I sometimes dread interacting with people (even my closest friends) but once I access my extraverted feeling, it seems so natural to hang out with them!
