TODAY’S FIVE
1| Sashayed’s Fall Playlist
I follow tumblr blogger Sashayed religiously, since she is clever, funny, has the cutest cat, and is horrified to find herself a 30-year-old One Direction fan. She very occasionally creates playlists on 8tracks, including an awesome Pop Maenads series. She just recently posted a second fall mix, Watch for Deer at Dawn, full of hipster lilting melodies, banjos, and the smell of cold in the air.
2| Wedding
Tomorrow my high school friend Hope is getting married! As a 27-year-old single person, I inevitably have mixed feelings about going. On the one hand, I am super into celebrating life events with the people I love. And a day full of fancy outfits, food, drinks, and dancing? Obviously I’m into it. But…oh joy, one more person getting married before me. And also, I’m not complaining about taking my dear friend Emily as my plus one, but…I guess I’m complaining a little, because none of my guy friends are single anymore. 90% of the time I love my life, but it’s times like these that I just want a boyfriend to be my date to a wedding.
3| Last Day of Work
For the last two months, I’ve been filling in as church secretary while Cathryn is on maternity leave. The timing was absolutely perfect, and since I’ve filled in a for a couple weeks before, there wasn’t much new to figure out. Mostly I got to visit with the church staff and anyone who came through. Oh! And I got to work on redesigning the church website, which was fun, and I practiced some marketing and graphic design skills with various event posters. But mostly, I will miss hanging out with people I love 8 hours a day…and getting paid to do so.
4| Dr. Ian Malcolm
On Tuesday, the church staff took me out to lunch. While there, Jurassic Park came up, and I accidentally admitted that I have a huge crush on Dr. Ian Malcolm (and by proxy, Jeff Goldblum). This morning, Rick came in and said, “Ian Malcolm, huh?”
“Yes,” I gushed.
“So you like the guys who are smarter than everyone else?”
“Yes! Also guys who are cocky. But with, yeah, the intelligence to back up their cockiness. Because otherwise they look ridiculous.”
Anyway, all this reminded me of THIS amazing shirt that I wish I owned. I don’t know where I would wear it, but. My heart would be happy knowing it was mine.
5| 4 Year Anniversary
…with my cat! On Tuesday, Timehop reminded me that it had been four years since I picked Rory out from the Pouilly farm, took him home, and began the softest, cuddliest relationship of my life. Last night he curled up against my back, and when I flipped over, he jumped over me to curl against my back again. Whenever I start to wake up, he sits by my head, stares into my face, and purrs loudly. If I blink at him slowly, he reaches out a paw to touch my eyelid. HE IS SO CUTE.
