Sunday Summary #54

1|  Apparently Thor: Ragnorak is going for a 90s punk aesthetic, and I am HERE. FOR. IT.  (Especially sexy blue-eyelinered Jeff Goldblum.)

2|  I’ve always loved Spike, but now I love James Marsters for his beautifully compassionate discussion about that horrific rape attempt in season 6 of Buffy.

3|  Full disclosure:  I haven’t read this yet, but it’s Soft Professor Chris Evans talking about how much he hates ne0-Nazis, so I have a hard time believing it’s not worth reccing.

Sunday Summary #53

1|  How should you spend your time on the Internet?  Reading someone’s term paper entitled Mythical Hero versus the Modern Heroine: The Female Hero in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games!  It’s got cool comparisons of Katniss to Theseus and Atalanta as well as a really delightful argument in favor of androgynous heroes with both feminine and masculine abilities.

Sunday Summary #52

1|  If you can’t travel as often or as diversely as you’d like, all hope is not lost!  This article does a beautiful job of suggesting ways to bring the world to you.

2|  President Obama surprised Joe Biden by giving him a Medal of Freedom, and I legitimately cried.

Sunday Summary #51

1|  Carrie Fisher was an amazing woman, and these 19 tweets complied by Buzzfeed honor her perfectly.

2|  Being “home” this month made me especially thrilled to read the Travelettes piece on the pros and cons of feeling at home, nodding furiously at everything they said.

3|  The best surprise!

Sunday Summary #50

1|  There is nothing I love more than grown men giggling helplessly.  This video goes in my “Keep in Case of Sadness” mental category.

Sunday Summary #49

1|  There is a large part of me that wants to ignore the fact that Johnny Depp abused Amber Heard, but that is a disservice to her experience.  I’m grateful that she’s speaking out and encouraging other women who are silenced by self-shame to escape dangerous relationships.

2|  Did that last video depress you?  Cheer up with this AMAZING mashup of Hamilton and Beyonce songs.  These people are astoundingly talented.

3|  I love this woman and everything she stands for.

4|  Alexander Hamilton Drunk History!! Does anyone know how I can watch the whole episode?

Sunday Summary #48

1|  This is exactly the kind of thinking that goes through my own head on a regular cat-cuddling day.

Sunday Summary #47

1|  I didn’t need more evidence that Lin-Manuel Miranda is the world’s cutiest pie, but the world delivered this adorable family video anyway.

2|  FINALLY the first full-length trailer of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.  I am very optimistic!

Sunday Summary #46

1|  My vacation in Slovenia was one of my favorite trips this year, and this couple’s blog post has GORGEOUS pictures of some of my favorite destinations!

2|  NomadicMatt is one of my favorite travel bloggers, and I love this piece he did about pursuing your life’s passion.

But I don’t buy into the idea that “you can find your passion” by sitting down with a pen and paper and thinking, “OK, I’m going to write down my passion and just do that.”

I think you stumble onto your passion.

You go out and live life and then realize: “this is the thing that lights my fire the most.”

Sunday Summary #45

1|  WOW.  Paulette Perhach tells an all-too-possible story that immediately convinced me to start an FU Fund (yes, that stands for what you think it does).  Women!  Start a savings account!  Don’t let your need for money keep you in a job or relationship that is harmful to you.

2|  My former Baptist pastor posted a link to this blog about why people are leaving the Baptist denomination, and I totally agree.

3|  I’m in love with this guy’s story.  He was diagnosed with Asperger’s late in life, a label which helped him appreciate his obsession with building adorable walkways and hideaways for his four pet cats.
