Sunday Summary #24: What’s on the Internet

Articles

1|  The Toast nails it when describing “How to Really Make Friends as an Adult.”

Get out of the house and participate in activities where you’ll meet like-minded people. For most people that means going to a rock-climbing class or signing up for a wine tasting. You don’t like those things? Well, do them anyway. All potential friends are into rock climbing.

2|  I do not need any further convincing to go to Japan, but this list definitely made me more desperate than ever to turn my dream into a reality!

Videos

1|  I am such a big fan of guys (trying to) experience life as a woman and being all, “I thought this would be easy but it’s so hard!!”

2|  IT’S HAPPENING!!  High schools are starting to sing Hamilton songs!!!  AND THEY’RE SO GOOD!

Sunday Summary #23: What’s on the Internet

Articles

1|  Blasphemy can be a good thing!  The former Archbishop of Canterbury says so, and I like his style.

2|  Yikes!  I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews of Batman vs. Superman, but this one is the most scathingly intelligent.

BVS is an unerring pastiche of who we are at this moment in time: scared, angry, violent, disjointed, poisoned by hiraeth (Batman keeps a Joker-defiled batsuit in a Plexiglas display case like a mad hobbyist), driven by emotion rather than logic, by ideologies rather than reason. It’s polarized, xenophobic, hyper-sexualized, hyper-desensitized, and, in the final analysis, more than a little psychotic.

Videos

1|  Two bros test girl products, and watching them try to figure out how tampons work is SUPER ADORABLE.  Boys take notes.

2|  Because I spent one hour of my life watching Seth Meyers perform in person, I am inappropriately proud of the fact that he’s now a father!

Sunday Summary #22: What’s on the Internet

It’s Easter in the States, so what better time to watch this old video of Stephen Colbert dancing and singing to “King of Glory” during, I assume, his time as a Sunday School teacher.

Sunday Summary #21: What’s on the Internet

Articles

1|  Reading Between the Texts are conversations between Katie and her friends as they try to decipher texts with guys…and the results are shockingly accurate and painfully hilarious.  (p.s. it’s a series!)

K: Why don’t you just keep his number so that you can choose not to respond when you see that the text is from him?
B: Impossible. If I have his number in my phone, I WILL do something terrible. Like, for instance, text him at 2 a.m. to ask him if he thinks I’m pretty.
K: … Maybe it’s just better if you don’t have a phone. Maybe we could get you a carrier pigeon.
B: I feel like I’d probably just end up training it to go coo outside his window when I’m drunk.

Videos

1|  Emma Watson beat-boxes while Lin-Manuel Miranda freestyles about gender quality.  What a gift from God.

Sunday Summary #20: What’s on the Internet

Videos

1|  The entire video is pretty okay, but I watched the scene with Luke and Yoda (beginning at 1:37) FOUR times and screamed with laughter every time.

2|  Two of my favorite people (Stephen Colbert and Anna Kendrick) geek out about two of my favorite things (Lord of the Rings and musicals)!

Sunday Summary #19: What’s on the Internet

Articles

1|  I’m still working my way through the list, but this is an awesome compilation of over 60 resources for couples (or interested singles) who want to shape their marriage around mutual submission instead of the more traditional “leader husband/submissive wife” roles.

Videos

1|  Solid gold parody!

2|  This passes the “laugh out loud” reblog rule MULTIPLE times.

2|  THIS!  Maris Kreizman wrote a fantastic piece that tears to pieces all the dumb platitudes people say to singles, which is aptly summarized in her title: “I Found Love Because I Got Lucky, Not Because I Changed Myself.”

Videos

1|  My favorite kind of love.

Sunday Summary #17: What’s On the Internet

Articles

1|  Relevant posted a cool article about how we don’t have to be desperate for God…and I really liked it.  I hadn’t thought of things in this way before, but I’ll try to from now on.

I know what people mean when they say they’re “desperate for God,” but I don’t think we have to feel that way. “Desperate” describes how someone feels when they’re not sure they’re going to ever get something. People in the desert are desperate for water. People who are lonely are desperate for relationship.

Being desperate for God is what someone feels who doesn’t really know what God has done. They don’t really know who God is for them. They don’t get that they are no longer living in a visitational culture. They are a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

2|  There are few things I love more than men getting fed up with rape culture and calling other men to a high standard, so naturally I adore Micah J. Murray for taking a stand against sexual assault.

3|  GASP.  The universe keeps delivering things I didn’t know I wanted!  Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote a book (out in just two months!) about his musical, aptly named: Hamilton the Revolution.  #hamiltome

1|  This week I discovered YouTubers PsychoSoprano (Colleen Ballinger) and JoshuaDTV (Joshua Evans).  They are funny apart, but they are SO CUTE together.  They dated for six years and they made the CUTEST video of their wedding last summer.  I cried during their vows, and I have only been aware of their existence for a couple days.

Sunday Summary #16: What’s on the Internet

Articles

1|  This article brilliantly explains why Beauty and the Beast is NOT an example of Stockholm Syndrome, but in fact portrays a healthy love story based on compassion and realizing you don’t have to be the beast people think you are.

Videos

1|  WOW this song by Ruth B does all sorts of things to my heart feelings.

‘Run, run, lost boy,’ they say to me. ‘Away from all of reality.’
Neverland is home to lost boys like me, and lost boys like me are free.
Neverland is home to lost boys like me, and lost boys like me are free.

2|  WOW, YES PERFECT.  Star Wars/Hamilton mashup!!

Sunday Summary #15: What’s on the Internet

Articles

1|  I’ve got six months to figure out how to watch PBS in Greece, because I am NOT missing their special on Hamilton!!

2|  The Mary Sue covers two of my favorite topics – feminism and Star Wars!  But this post isn’t about Rey.  It’s about the men of The Force Awakens, and how they are a shining example of feminist men in the media.

Videos

1|  I just discovered Nadine, a travel vlogger, and this video about airport/airplane travel hacks was really informative!  Some I knew, but a lot of her suggestions were really genius.
