Sunday Summary #33: What’s on the Internet

ARTICLES

1|  Lol lol, here you go – a user’s manual for befriending INFJs!  The whole thing is hilarious, but I especially enjoyed the sections on “Advanced Interactions” and “Troubleshooting and Support.”

Q: What if I think my INFJ suffers from “special snowflake” syndrome?

A: Many INFJs grow up feeling misunderstood and embrace the uniqueness of the INFJ label when they discover Myers-Briggs. If you attack their sense of individuality, the INFJ will react defensively (often by shutting you out of their life rather than direct confrontation). Let your INFJ know you understand that they feel rare, unusual, and out of place, but remember they may also need a reminder that they really are part of the human race. Healthy INFJs won’t insist that they are better than other people or push you away for reminding them that they’re human.

2|  This review of Captain America: Civil War is AMAZING.

The Catboy mourns his dad. Handsome Soviet Assassin Husband buys plums. He is an innocent boy. He just likes to eat fruit alone in his gross bed. He is so sad. He is arrested for being sad. Everyone is arrested and in trouble, even The Catboy even though he is a king. Maybe they are in trouble for destroying Romania. I think it’s because they are sad. Sad handsomes. 😦 Handsome SOviet Assassin Husband has Handsome America picture in his journal. I faint. I want them to be together so bad. I clutch my face in the dark. I flex and relax my muscles. They are so handsome and unhappy.

3|  The Mary Sue does a fun look back (and wish forward) at Disney princes and how they evolved into having personalities.  I was most interested in the idea that as women started contributing to the creative process, the princes stopped being Cardboard Cutout Providers  and started being Floppy Haired Fun Guys.

VIDEOS

1|  Alexander Skaarsgaard has the biggest crush on Stephen Colbert.  Seriously, I have never seen anyone make heart eyes at someone so hard for so long, and I am HERE FOR IT. (Bonus:  watch their follow-up clips in which they have a little slap-fight over food and Stephen tries to convince Alexander to take off his shirt).

Sunday Summary #32: What’s on the Internet

1|  Hamilton fan Arielle Jovellanos inspired 45 artists to create Ham4Pamphlet, a compilation of artwork uniquely designed for each of the songs on the album…AND I WANT ONE SO BAD, why is it not for sale!?

And now a lot of videos!  Click through for an eating disorder-inspired dance, a think piece on online vs. offline self that avoids the too-easy anti-technology perspective, and a hilarious fake advertisement for a Hamilton-cure.  Continue reading

Sunday Summary #31: What’s on the Internet

1|  Somebody finally wrote the “I Kissed Dating Goodbye Ruined My Life” piece I’ve always wanted!

It’s fostered the sort of shame that follows me into my relationship now, and it makes me angry at how dating or relationships without marriage as a pre-determined point, let alone sex or any kind of physical affection, were robbed of any joy for me. It’s like a low level noise of distrust and anxiety that some would probably call the conviction of the Holy Spirit. I once called it that, but no more.

2|  Jeff Goldblum describes his excitement about being in the new Thor movie and continues to make my heart scream, “WHY am I so attracted to this man!?”

“Not only Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins… jeez, that’s gonna be fun.”

3|  There’s going to be a new Final Fantasy game!  Chibi versions of old characters all together in a new world doing…something!  I don’t care, I’m here for it.

Sunday Summary #30: What’s on the Internet

1|  Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda will co-star in a Mary Poppins sequel!  It’s not quite (at all) a Hamilton movie, but I’ll take it!

2|  The Internet drew my attention back to this truly phenomenal interview with Chris Evans in 2011.  I can only DREAM of someday so completely and inappropriately doing my “job” of interacting with and becoming flustered by America’s Sweetheart.

But in the days since my first interview with Chris Evans, I’d drunk myself under the table, snuck out of his house at five thirty in the morning, bummed a ride home off a transsexual, been teased mercilessly in front of his mother, and now—this bit in the paper.

I don’t remember touching his chest, which is too bad.

(It was around then that we were spotted by the gossip reporter that I didn’t know was a gossip reporter, or else I wouldn’t have explained to him on the way back from the bathroom that Chris was “soo flirty” and that I had “the biggest crush on him.” Haha. Oops!)

There will never be an interview as glorious as this.

Sunday Summary #29: What’s on the Internet

1|  Just.  Waves and waves of goosebumps.  And it comes out the day before my birthday!

Sunday Summary #28: What’s on the Internet

1|  90% of the Black Panther cast will be African or African-American!  I’m loving blockbusters’ commitment to increasing diversity (or at least, Star Wars and Marvel).  More stories from more voices!

2|  Speaking of!  This awesome guy interviewed three women in his life to talk about the increased female representation in the Star Wars world!

3|  I’M FURIOUS.  If ONLY Tom Hiddleston were my boyfriend.

If Tom Hiddleston were your boyfriend, your life would be full of moments where you’d just be standing in your yoga pants with your hair sticking up, waiting for the kettle to boil, when suddenly he’d pop up next to you and exclaim, “Dance break!” and you’d find yourself jitterbugging or tangoing or doing some other dance that you didn’t actually know you knew how to do, while the kettle whistled. This would also come to be your second favorite way of resolving a fight.

4|  Do you, like me, long for someone to put together a list of beautiful soundtrack songs from movies, TV shows, and video games?  You’re in luck (and so am I)!  With songs from Lord of the Rings, Final Fantasy 7, and Star Wars, I knew the less-known recommendations would be right up my alley.

Sunday Summary #27: What’s On the Internet

Articles

1|  This piece by “lapsed-Catholic” Sady about the balls-to-the-wall bravery of Joan of Arc, likening her to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and highlighting the tragedy of her murder because of her queerness is SO GOOD.  I need to study up on the saints!

Videos

1|  Kristen Bell is one of my favorite actresses, and I love that she was brave enough to speak openly about her struggles with depression and anxiety.

Videos

1|  Mark this down as a video to rewatch every day until my death.  TOM HIDDLESTON WITH A BABY LEOPARD CUB!!  (The cover photo is of James Corden, but I promise Tom Hiddleston is the guest to watch.)

Just for funsies, my real-time reaction to watching this video for the first time:

Screen Shot 2016-04-30 at 12.21.54 AM

2|  WELL.  Daveed Diggs, the beautiful and talented human being who plays both Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton, played HOBBES THE TIGER in a comic strip-to-video adaptation.  The internet is truly a wonderful place.

Sunday Summary #26: What’s on the Internet

Articles

1|  “Things I’ve Learned About Heterosexual Female Desire From Decades of Reading“…the title says it all, but here’s a quote anyway.

“100% of women want to have sex with a man who embodies the fox version of Robin Hood from the cartoon Robin Hood, but most do not actually want to have sex with a fox or a man dressed as one.”

2|  Mallory Ortberg (famous Christian John Ortberg’s daughter) gave a hilarious and insightful interview entitled “Toast’s Mallory Ortberg on Death, Faith, and Why It’s So Easy to Make Fun of Christians.”

Videos

1|  “They will be replacing renowned Indian stabber Andrew Jackson…I’m sorry, Native American stabber Andrew Jackson, on the twenty dollar bill, with Harriet Tubman.”

1|  Jonathan Groff is no longer King George in Hamilton (NATIONAL TRAGEDY), but he makes up for the sadness by hilariously inducted Jimmy Fallon into the Order of the Garter.
